About Elizabeth Dolan
Registered Nurse, Grad Cert in Health (Palliative Care)
Elizabeth first started nursing when she was 17 years old and has been in the nursing profession ever since. On completing her Registered Nurse training in Dublin she worked for UNHCR in refugee camps in Asia before migrating to Australia in 1987. Since then she has worked in theatre, day surgery, aged care, community palliative care and currently works in the acute care sector.
Elizabeth has many and varied interests in healthcare and well-being. Whilst working in aged care Elizabeth discovered that she had a natural way with supporting people who are dying and went on to complete a Graduate Certificate in Health (Palliative Care). Since then she spent some time working in Palliative Care Community and currently volunteers her time to support the community with her skills as a nurse, including supporting people and families when a loved one chooses to die at home.
Her other great interest is in supporting people to understand the true meaning of self-care and why it is so vital in our lives and professions.
Over the years she has seen the toll that working within a stressful environment has had on herself and her colleagues. Through deepening her relationship with her own wellbeing, by actively learning to self-care and self-nurture, she has not only been able to continue to work within the health care arena but to thrive within it.
Inspired by the work of pioneering philosopher and practitioner Serge Benhayon of Universal Medicine, who has presented a unique approach to self-care over the past 15 years, Elizabeth now brings a lived experience of the importance of self-care and self-nurturing to her life and her work.
“Self-care is more than just the basics, it’s about going to the heart of who you are as a person and accepting your value and that you are deeply worth caring for. When we care from that place it becomes about the quality and not just the action. It becomes more about the way we do what we do rather than just what we do.”
Elizabeth brings a tremendous warmth to everything that she does. She has a love for people, a passion for nursing and is deeply dedicated to her community.
